Assateague Lighthouse

Oil on Canvas

16" x 20"

This candy striped lighthouse was first built in 1833 and then later rebuilt to its present form in 1867. When it was first constructed, it was situated at the southern tip of Assateague Island, but the constant deposition of sand by the sea over the years has added much new land to the lower part of the Island, leaving the lighthouse far inland.
